Tombak (a goblet drum) is the main percussive instrument in Persian/Iranian Art Music (i.e. ensemble playing). Daf (a frame drum) is the main regional and sufi percussive instrument of Iran. You can choose either instrument or both to learn. In these classes you will learn:
- The techniques of playing the instrument.
- Fundamental concepts: meters, rhythms and keeping the beat (i.e. a requirement for any musical activity)
- How to read percussive music (i.e. notations).
Introduction to Persian Art Music

This is a flexible course tuned to your interest. In this class you will learn
- Music rudiments (applicable to any type of music).
- Persian music theory.
- Orientation on several musical instruments, e.g. tonbak, daf, tar, setar, tanbur and santur.
